The request we responded to was
for a vessel to be shipped overland or by sea carrier. The requirement
was for a shallow draft vessel that could be parted off into
pieces and carried on trucks, to ferry heavy loads such as road
graders or vehicles to be offloaded in remote locations throughout
the Alaskan interior.
-
- As a last minute decision
and to accommodate the budgetary requirements we designed a shallow
draft vessel with a pilothouse that would allow the front wheels
of a road grader to reside under the pilothouse, with a "see-through"
loading ramp, with a deck for the pilots to step out onto, with
ventilation from the engine room to pass up and under the pilothouse
and use the engine heat to help warm the cabin, with a bulwark
system that could shed ice, with an inexpensive, maintenance
free ramp retrieval system operated by cables rather than hydraulics.
-
- If you would like to explore
the possibilities of such a design, the plans and construction
for the vessel can be made through Kennedy Ship and Repair, Galveston,
TX.
